CREATING LIFE,
NEGATING CONCEPTION
...and other secrets of
hormonal self-control

by L. Rae Lake

Introduction:
THE
SUBTLE SIDE OF CHOICE

The purpose of the human reproductive cycle evolved in male and female to ensure the continuation of the species, but this does not mean that the purpose of any individual woman is to have a baby. That is a matter of choice.

Is it possible that women (could they but realize it) have subjective, even spiritual control over their own hormones?  Is it possible women have inner control over their reproductive processes?  Is it possible that women have final say over their own lives?  Is it possible that women (whether they know it or not) can subtly determine how and when or whether they will become pregnant and, if pregnant, whether or not they will produce a child?

I think so.

In clarifying the hidden, subtle side of choice, I show when and how our deeper choices are made and, based on my experience, why I think these things are possible.  This quotation piqued my interest and started this exploration:

"...beyond a certain point the planet cannot support humanity. This is more fundamental in its implications than you can imagine. Again, we have evidence of a growing realization of the [human] race along this particular line; that realization is as yet distorted and much misunderstood and is today producing the promiscuous use of contraceptive methods. As the intelligence of the race is developed (and that is going on apace), as the Laws of Rhythm and Approach are grasped, it will then be found that there are certain innate reactions which will negate conception, and then the mechanical means will no longer be required. This seems as yet extremely vague and almost impossible, but the [human] race is rapidly achieving personality control...and this, in its turn, must produce certain automatic and inherent changes".
(Education in the New Age, Alice A. Bailey, pp. 134-35).

In the politics of human fertility, today's technological advances are raising significant ethical questions and are creating important controversies.

Effective local, national and international laws and guidelines do not generally exist to govern specific use of such scientific discoveries as freezing and genetic manipulation of eggs and embryos, transference of embryos from one woman to another, using an artificial uterus, harvesting useful tissues and growing new organs from unwanted or incomplete embryos, stem cell research, cloning, selective breeding, and more.

These issues have far greater ethical consequences for humanity than a simple abortion and, at this critical stage, deserve our best thought.

The scientific cloning of human beings today is not only possible but inevitable. Already some are claiming to have done so.  If we are to avoid devastating results and misunderstanding, it is vitally important to clarify what, exactly, constitutes a true human being.

Human clones are not a novelty.  Many of us have friends or loved ones who are human clones because the natural cloning of identical twins is a common occurrence. The birth of identical human beings has always evoked curiosity, interest and sometimes fear but today twins are generally accepted as natural human beings, if not entirely ordinary people. This was not always the case with twins.  Even today, multiple births offer little cause for celebration because of the added stress they place on any family.

Please note, the primary focus of this article is hormonal rather than genetic manipulation. I introduce the possibilities of hormonal self-control (yes, self-control) as an unnoticed potential of the human mind with astonishing reproductive implications. This liberating technique depends absolutely on grasping the distinctly dual nature of reproductive choice.

In creating a coherent overview,  I flagrantly generalize in order to clarify--from a spiritual (not religious) perspective--what otherwise are merely controversial and theoretical ideas, such as:

bulletwhat is a human being;
bulletwhen, exactly, does 'life begin';
bulletcertain ramifications of hormonal self-control;
bulletthe problem of infanticide or neonaticide;
bullet the rights of the soul vs. the rights of the form;
bulletthe unrecognized value of fatherhood.

This article was published as "NEGATING CONCEPTION--the Esoteric Nature of Hormonal Choice", The Beacon Magazine (1997), an international subscription magazine of esoteric philosophy (Lucis Publishing Co., New York, London & Geneva). The word esoteric means 'subtle, hidden; not obvious'. I articulate ideas and possible supplemental experimental techniques to negate or to help avoid unwanted pregnancy that are definitely not obvious.

The same basic techniques are equally effective to assist with fertility treatments, or can provide for greater success in delivering a healthy baby.  Accurate visualization supplements all other efforts.

Effective reproductive freedom based on hormonal self-control requires us to distinguish accurately, dispassionately and clearly between:

bullet

objective physical choice (abstention, birth control devices, pills, abortions, etc.),
or

bullet

subtle, subjective, even spiritual hormonal choice (a deep, inner, hormonal decision which either allows or negates conception).

Included (without footnotes) are odd bits of sexual history, most researched by me and some gleaned with deep, deep appreciation from Reay Tannahill's informative book, Sex in History.
